Travel Emergency Kit Checklist

Download the free printable Travel Emergency Kit Checklist here.

When you pack a travel emergency kit, the hope is that you won't have to use it.

Ironically, it seems that when you pack it, you never use it. But somehow, the one time you forget it is the one time you really need it.

That's why I recommend packing a small emergency kit when traveling with babies and toddlers. It doesn't take up much space, and having a few essentials on hand can save you a lot of stress when you're in a new place and trying to figure out where the nearest pharmacy is.

Hopefully, you won't use any of it. But in case you do need it, you'll be glad it's there.

✔ Minor Bumps & Scrapes

Must haves:

  • Band-Aids
  • Alcohol wipes
  • Healing Ointment
  • Antiseptic wound spray

Nice to haves:

  • Arnica
  • Gauze pads
  • Medical tape
  • Tweezers

✔ Fever & Pain Relief

  • Ibuprofen
  • Paracetamol suppositories
  • Thermometer

✔ Cold & Congestion Essentials

  • Saline spray
  • Tissues

✔ Hygiene On the Go

  • Hand sanitizer
  • Extra wipes

✔ If Relevant to Your Child

  • Prescription medications
  • Allergy medication
  • Inhaler

✈️ Travel Tip

Before your trip, take a few minutes to research a pediatrician, urgent care clinic, and pharmacy near your destination. I also recommend saving the address and phone number in your phone before you leave.

When you're dealing with a sick child, you'll appreciate having that information ready to go.

Hopefully, you'll never need it. But if your toddler gets sick while you're away, the last thing you'll want to do is search for medical care while running on little sleep and caring for an uncomfortable child in an unfamiliar place.

If you're traveling abroad, it's also worth looking for a provider who speaks your language. This will make it much easier to communicate if you need medical advice.

Final Thoughts

Like most parenting travel gear, this is one of those things that's better to have and not need than need it and not have it.

Best case scenario, you'll come home with the entire kit untouched.

But if your toddler gets sick, develops a fever, or takes a tumble while exploring somewhere new, you'll be grateful you packed a few simple essentials ahead of time.

A little preparation can save a lot of stress—and that's one less thing to worry about while making family memories.
